General information
- Geographic location: The city is bounded by An Giang to the north, HậuGiang to the south, KiênGiang to the west, Vĩnh Long and ĐồngTháp to the east.
- Area: 1,401.6 km2
- Topographic features: The city has delta topographic features with many rivers and chanels.
- Administrative units: Include Can Tho city with 5 urban districts of Ô Môn, CáiRăng, BìnhThủy, NinhKiều and Thot Not and 4 suburban districts of Thoi Lai, VĩnhThạnh, CờĐỏ, Phong Điền.
- Population: 1,189,600 people 
Resources
- Natural resources: Can Tho lining in alluvial area of Me Kong river has rich land resources that are suitable for paddy cultivation, growing vegetables, crops, short-term industrial crops and tropical fruit trees. In terms of minerals, the province has clay for ceramic manufacturing, sands, muddy coal. Regarding biological resources, flora which includes many species such as weed, alga, fig, nipa, centella and water-fern is mainly in alluvium area.
- Tourism resources: CầnThơ is a beautiful city with 65km along Hậu river. There are many beautiful natural wild landscapes. There also many religious monuments as temples, pagodas, and churchs. CầnThơ bridge is the country most beautiful bridge with over 15km long crossing Hậu river, connecting CầnThơ city and Vĩnh Long province. The tourism areas of Cồn Ấu, Cồn Khương, Cồn Cái Khếetc which are on construction will make the city’s ecology tourism become more various.  

- Human resources:
 In 2010, the number of workers in working age was about 800,000 accounted for just over 70% population, of which about 500,000 workers work in the economy of the province. Can Tho university which is one of 14 key universities nationwide is located in the province so that the human resources of the province was developed significantly.
Infrastructures
- Transportation system: Transportation in Can Tho is quite convenient with three transportation means.  Roadway: CầnThơ has national roadway No.91 running to An Giang; No. 80 to KiênGiang, especially national roadway No.1A connecting CầnThơ with other provinces in Mekong delta. Waterway: CầnThơ located on Hậu river can allow the circulation of over 1,000 ton ships. Besides, the city has three ports namely CầnThơ, TràNóc and Cái Cui. Airway: CầnThơ has TràNóc airport which will be upgraded to become an international airport.
- Power supply system: CầnThơ has TràNóc thermal power plant with the capacity of 200MW connected to the national grid. Ô Môn thermal power plant is on construction with the capacity of 2,800 MW, of which the fisrt station with the capacity of 600MW was connected to the national grid.

- Water supply: CầnThơ has 2 water plants with supply capacity of 90,000 m3/day. It is planned to build more water plants in Trà Nóc, Hưng Thạnh, Thốt Nốt and VĩnhThạnh to make the total capacity up to 150,000 m3/day.
- Post and telecommunication system: Cần Thơ has 1 central post office and 4 district post offices capable to provide international communication services.  
- Industrial zones:  Can Tho city has eight Industrial zones with the total area of 2,164 hectares, of which 545.5 hectares was rented. They are Tra Noc I IZ, Tra Noc II IZ, Hung Phu I IZ, Hung Phu 2A IZ, Hung Phu 2B IZ, Thot Not IZ, O Mon IZ, Bac O Mon IZ.

- Growth rate: In the period of 206-2010, the average growth was 15,12% per year.
